I thought I would do a quick post as the third person in the last month has contacted me about Testing Ipad Apps – reportedly a way of getting yourself a free Apple Ipad after two months of testing and reviewing ipad apps.
The offer is sweet.
Companies are willing to give out iPads to participants at first come, first serve basis. Spots are closing fast, so act today. You only need to review the assigned iPad apps and use it for 2 months. You will be looking for bugs, and suggesting how to improve future versions. As a compensation, you get to keep your iPad without any fee. It is 100% yours. You have no obligations.
Now, maybe it’s just me, but a free ipad – that sounds a litte too good to be true.
We are looking for 5000 iPad apps testers! Free participation. No fees. Testing period is 2 months. You keep the iPad at the end of the testing period. No fees before or after your particpation. 100% free.
Now they have been looking for quite a few months for that number. I saw it months ago. Surely a deal as hot as a free ipad would go, in a a day?
Connecting with Twitter is required to become a tester. To learn more about you, we require you to sign us in with your Twitter. By doing this step, we are able to get your account info, geographical location, and learn more about your online activity. Using this data, we will decide if you fit the required criteria. Simply click on “Sign in with Twitter”, a popup window will appear, and on it click “Allow”.
So, they want access to my Twitter account, and my followers etc so – from what I have experienced, they can DM all your followers with the same message…. later on they want access to your email contacts too if you use the “inviter”:
We automatically import your friends’ contacts, and send them friendly invitations. All you have to do is to connect to your email account with the form on this page and invite will be automatically sent to your contacts. Importing your web email contacts (hotmail.com, gmail.com, yahoo.com aol.com, etc.) is the easiest and fastest way to invite friends to the site.
Now of course, it’s pretty hard to tell if this free ipad testing offer is a scam, for sure. But, it sure LOOKS too good to be true IN MY HONEST OPINION, and there is plenty of people asking the same question – Is Testing Ipad Apps a scam, or legit?
I’d certainly recommend you NOT give your contact details (or Twitter details) to a third party like this – again that’s for sure.
There’s plenty forum threads on free testing ipad apps scams – it’s impossible to tell if this one is one of them but it looks a bit similar in feel and form to previous apple ipad apps testers scams we have seen:
Three months ago, I clicked a linked that my friends sent me to be a free iPad tester, and since then, I’ve managed to spam all my address book at least three times.
hmmm…..
PS I am happy to correct factually incorrect information in this post.
