Farrah Fawcett (Charlie’s Angels) whose poster sales broke records, making her an international sex symbol in the 1970s and 1980s.In 1976, Pro Arts Inc., pitched the idea of a poster of Farrah Fawcett to her agent, and a photo shoot was arranged. The resulting legendary poster, of Farrah in a one-piece red bathing suit, was a best-seller; sales estimates ranged from over 5 million to 8 million to as high as 12 million copies. She might not have been my favourite Angel, but I remember that poster…. RIP – dead at only 62.
The blitz would later be dubbed “the Farrah Phenomenon.” For her one-season run on “Charlie’s Angels” Fawcett was paid $5,000 per episode — but she earned $400,000 in royalties from the poster. For more see Fox.
